Does anyone care the fate of the station. I hear that two of the shifts down there have rolled over and want to go. What a bunch of yellow belly's. I have a good Idea who they are. It is worth fighting for and I feel you should fight to. Thats all of you reading this!!! That firehouse is a awsome working firestation and the men should be SO Proud of it and have the _alls to stand up for it. We need to stand as one. ONE FD UNION, and leave all the cut throat and kanivin behind.
what you said is true,But its a little late,When the city was looking to close station 1 only 14 guys went to the meeting to save station 1 out of 250 plus!! The guys you are complaining about were there. The battle for station 1 was lost along time ago,The day they broke ground on the new station we had lost. You can set around and cry about station 1 all you want but we better get off our asses and forget station 1 and try and keep 5 and 9 now! If we do nothing they will be closed next!
five and nine should stay open too. I agree. Five and nine dont have near as much respect and admiration that the #1 has, and you know that as well as me. #1 is the Flagship station in our department, It should never be questioned about the closing of it. Do some of your own research and see how many other old (100) plus yr. stations there are out there that are still runnig fireman out of them.....and get our leaders to ask the questions to their counsil's and administrations as to why they leave them alone. ITs History and it lives with us. There is not any cry'n on my part but the station should stay open and good reason. Not just our red pin city counsel.
i agree i love station 1 and do not think it sould be closed. But i think we have lost that battle. We spen to much time stabbing each other in the back instead of saving stations,1 is gone and i hate to say that!! But again if we keep on we will lose 5 and 9 next!!! AGREE?????

five is a hole and needs something done to it or tear it down and build new where it stands. Nine is ok and could use some attention. You BOYZ at five, or City shop need to get that we can do anything we want thought out of your heads. There are 12 other stations that have to go by some rules and you guyz just do what you want. I am glad some new Capt. came and stopped some of the stupid stuff. Like going downtown all day and hang'n with Bro. and clan. But, five should be closed and made anew. 1 is the one that needs to stay alive. But where were any of the ol' five clan when it was up for discussion at city counsel. Noop I didnt see them either. Man this is nice to say finally.
You should be shift specific when bashing #5. Not all the shifts do "what they want" over there. In the eyes of the citizens of the Melrose/Rugby neighborhood, the fire station is far from a "hole". If you mention closing that station, that community gets all pissed off!! They love it and so do I. I spent 5 awsome years at that station and loved every minute. I gained a tremendous ammonunt of experience and worked with some of the best Capt's and Lt's you could ask for. If you dont like that little "hole", keep it to yourself. There are plenty of us do.
Oh come on "anonymous said"....shoe in? Dont be a hater. You can leave all the negative stuff you want on the Rumor Mill. Give a fellow firefighter and Union brother a little respect and dont polute HIS site with your crap, and negativity. I think the majority of us look at this site daily and enjoy it for what it is, and that it's not a "rumor mill" type site. Be positive man..and please sign your posts. Dont hide behind the screen.
I think no matter how much we love #1 and the other old stations in the city, we're just not going to win this battle. Things change, time is ticking away and the station are getting older and older. Personally I think Ladder 1 should stay right where it is. The history speaks for its self, not to mention its a great tourist attraction for Roanoke, just look at the visitor log!! All we can do is enjoy it while its still there.
Any bets on how long it will be before a car hits the new station and ends up in the kitchen, or when a piece of apperatus is rear ended while trying to squeeze into the parking lot.
MORE PAY FOR ALL THE OFFICER'S!!! It's long over due, we can pay the EMT-I 4000 extra. A new EMT-I and a NEW LT. with the same hire date. The EMT-I makes about 2500 more than the LT. THATS CRAZY !! Remember the officers are picked by the chief's of this Department to do a job, and you know that some of them decided to give the $4000 to the I's. Lets do the right thing and give all Officer's at least 12 to 15% increase!!
You know it sounds like to me that you think the I's and P's shouldn't get the money. If that is how you feel justify why not and why a Lt. should make more than a I or P

No one said I's or P's shouldn't get the money they do !!! But when a 10 yr. 1st. Lt. makes more than a 25 yr. Capt. there is a problem!!
