Fire Station 1 turns 100
The Historic Downtown Fire Station #1 turns 100 years old today. The station opened on February 6, 1907. If you would like to view some of the history of the Roanoke Fire Department, now the Roanoke Fire-EMS Department, you look at the right hand sidebar and click on the category "history", or you can go to Local 1132 online and view the Maurice Wiseman Project: http://www.local1132.org/history/mwproject/timeline.htm.
Fire Station #1 is believed to be one of the oldest operating firehouses in Virginia.
I will have more on this story later today.
