Fire Station 9's brand new kitchen table

Update: If you are following along with the comments, Captain Wines mentions #9's old patch that Chief Obenchain made back in the day. If you want to see it look here:
http://www.vafirenews.com/patches/region6.htm. I have posted the patch on the blog in the past but didn't feel like searching for it. RMF

Fire Station 9 finished their kitchen table recently and sent in pictures. They have produced t-shirts with the emblem that is seen on the wall at the pole upstairs. It seems as though the guys have done a great job with the table. All three shifts had their hand in completing the table.

Who will be next? Station 1, 5, and 9 have made them already. I have an idea for the big 13, I just have to find the time. Good job guys.

You guys can order the shirts and other memorabilia with their logo on it here:

Looks like alot of pride in their company! With the 343 comment, I doubt they're "misfits". Where can we buy one of the shirts?

Nice job guys! Company pride at it's finest! Very nice touch with the "343" also, as we all shall not forget.

Its all decals Todd. Purched from Kevin's Signs here in RKE. He also does all the lettering for the Medic Units 427-1070 if you need anything done. He does great work and it affordable to boot. WW

Hey guys great job on the tables, it's a great show of station/company pride. Hey Rhett, why haven't you posted on our latest to leave? The retired and quit.

But what happened to the 143 slogan and the names of the 18 from all 3 shifts that was supposed to be on the table????

Explain the 143 slogan.... What's up with that? (Why put the guys from each shift on the table when the players in the game change daily)

This was emailed in:

It's not 143, its 343! The number of men who paid the ultimate on Sept. 11, 2001, RING A BELL?!? And as far as our names on the table, all 3 shifts agreed they made the table too cluttered, they are located on the underside. The reason for wanting them there in the first place is so the guys assigned there 20 yrs from now will know who was there before them and the pride we had in the company. Maybe, just maybe, that pride and tradition will carry on because we WERE there. Most guys didnt know that now retired Lt. Mike Milton made the table that we replaced, how could they know if it wasnt passed on? Who made the table at your station? Think about it. Capt. Wines # 9-C

Ok, Now I get the phone calls so I'll explain the jack ass too. If you look real careful at the logo, OR if you read this site regular, you'll notice the small round patch (in the center bottom of the rear shirt logo). That patch was designed by the men of # 9 (who at that time included now retired Battalion Chief Obenchain) when E9 and L4...YES, Ladder 4 was assigned. SO, we wanted a new shirt, a company project to instill pride and tradition. Something to encompass the old and the new.. so as not to forget those before us who made # 9 a desired station in which to work (men like Big Johnny Price, Big Ron, Big Daddy Sullivan, Capt. Givens, and the list goes on). Oh the practicle jokes, the 10-71's the good and the bad. Anyways, we wanted to include the past in some way and the patch hit home. They had the Jack ass wearing a Scott air pack, complete with the low pressure hose and all. The caption said "fire kicking ass". Now, if thats not us, NOTHING IS! So, we combined the photo of the station, the Engine and now MEDIC and included the old patch and resurected the ass so you guys would ask and I would have the chance to tell you a little history about our house. Bottom line, IT WORKED! Capt. Wines

Nice job Captain, keep it up, and we might actually get this department back to where it should be!!

One final note on the placment of the "343" and the rear logo is the fact that its at the pole. Each night, each time we slide that pole we are REMINDED. EVERY TIME WE SLIDE! nuf said

Sorry for the typo,,,I meant 343 not 143,,,I never meant to disrespect those men that dies that day. I am not that good at typing on this here puter. Had just heard a rumor that a 343 tribute logo was going to be on the table.
Captain Wines you are by far the epitome of tradition and heritage in the fire department. Thank you for your inspiration.

Ok, that is why I was asking about the 343. I knew why, where, and all that, but the 143 threw me. Thanks for the explanation, Capt you and the guys have done good.

what does everyone think about making company patches.

Anonymous said...

Its a great idea , but i do not think admin would let us have them on our coats. I t would be good for company pride and company moral. i have been thinking of doing one for my station.

I think that company patches would be great. I was talking to a Chief the other day who said he would like to see Company Logos on the sides of the trucks. Grigsby was not interested in the idea, however you never know what Hoback will say.

The main issue is that when the patches are made they are professional in manner.

I say go for it. I have a little bit of experience with photoshop and I will be working on one for 13 soon. If you have an idea let me know and I might be able to help.

if one has been made (fire kicking ass) it should be updated not completely redone.

To The Cowboy, you are my "HERO".
Let'us blw my smoke.

O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done;
The ship has weathered every rack, the prize we sought is won;
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring.
But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of red!
Where on the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.
