Rhett,

How many does RFD plan to hire?

Right now the "official" number I was told was 10, which means that the number could go up.

Are they looking to fill that number with medics? The reason I ask, I'm only an EMT in a different state.
Will they make medic mandatory in the academy or just EMT-I?
Thanks for your feedback.

Being a medic will help you get hired, however it is not required. As far as I know there isn't a requirement of any fire/ems training. What you should do is apply, then check for reciprocity of your EMT to this State. In recruit school they will put you through EMT and Fire Training, and might require EMT-I after recruit school. I posted about getting hired, some time in the past, however I could not find it, feel free to look around. The archives are on the right hand side near the bottom. If you have more questions, keep asking.

When are they looking at starting a class? Cpat is Jan.6 and interviews to follow. Are they looking around February? What is the residency requirements? Do you have to live with-in city limits after being hired? Thanks again for the feed-back Rhett. I'm sure more questions will be coming.

I believe that I heard they will start a class in February. When I was hired the residency requirements were that you have to live 10 or maybe 15 airmiles from the Municipal building. I have not seen them enforce this and currently we have some firefighters living further away. As best as I can tell you, call Fire Administration at 853-2327 and ask someone down there, it would probably be wise to speak with Chief Hoback as well, just to let him know you are interested and that you are doing everything you need to do.
