AFG Awarded to Roanoke City

Roanoke City was awarded $302,424.00 in Operations and Safety in the latest round of Assistance to Firefighters Grant.

Does anyone know what this is for? I have not heard and I am interested.

Rhett, was told by a chief that it was going to be used for a driving and pumping simulator. Going to be used for promotional tests and training. Sounds pretty cool.

also a driving simulator. It was in the council update the chief sent out in the emails.

Huge budget shortfall, freeze on all non essential spending, and they are spending money on a simulator??????????

Good thing we don't need anything important!

We seem to be hireing alot of "stupid" these days! Maybe we could use and IQ simulator?

Maybe you should have paid attention to where the money came from "stupid" they didn't pick it off of the money tree. It comes from tax payer money "stupid" ha ha ha

This is a federal grant, last time I checked the City of Roanoke isn't collecting federal tax dollars from its residents! Sometimes its just better to admit you're wrong rather than to keep looking like a dumbass!

First, nobody ever said the grant money came from the City, go back and read the post "dumbass".

Next, the first line on your paycheck under deductions is "Federal tax". So congratulations some of your tax money is buying a first class simulator thingy.

Next why do you need a pump simulator, just go out in the bay and use a real Fire Engine pump! Same for a driving simulator, go drive a real truck, or play x-box if you need a toy. Or are you insecure about your skills, then maybe you can practice on a simulator first, then try the real thing.

This is another toy that will get little use. Just like the ATV at 6# and the trailer bought to carry it, only the trailer is to small so it is just sitting at 11#. (more grant money at work)

No matter which tax payer money is being used, a simulator is a toy and not something that is needed.

next!

Wow,

What losers to complain about their administration going out and getting a grant to further their education and to hook the city up with some cutting edge training.

Whats cutting edge about a pump on a trailer?

Lets shoot for cutting edge turnout gear, cutting edge boots, Ladder trucks that are not in the shopp all of the time, cutting edge pay scale, cutting edge benifts, etc, etc, etc.

How about a cutting edge spell checker? You guys kill me.

I am glad we are getting grants, but maybe we need a Comm. of fireman that are going to use the Eq. (stuff) we honestly need. Downtown is out of touch with the stations and the Fireman in them. Come by, there Hoback, and talk to us and leave knotheads at the office to do what it is they do.?. Get in touch with your men, and let them talk without taking it personal. We are good people, and we don't want everything, just make things a little better, Baby steps is ok with me on some issues, but big steps are needed in other areas..
