Captain Marvin Huddleston Retires
Captain Marvin Huddleston is retiring. His last day is today. Huddleston was hired in August 29, 1979 by the Roanoke Fire Department. Huddleston was one of the first Paramedics in the Roanoke Fire Department if not the first (if my memory serves me correctly). Huddleston is currently the Captain at Station 6 C Shift.
Captain Huddleston enjoyed a steak dinner with the guys at #6, his wife Claudia, Chief Beckner, and Captain Loren Thompson. He then went home from the station for the last time on the job.

Thanks for all the good times working with you. It was always a pleasure, and you were one of the voices that I knew I could trust. Of course, your voice was in the house with the rest of us putting out fires.
I know you are going to love retirement, and give it about a month when the stress of the job finally leaves you for good. It feels wierd, yet refreshing. Best of luck in your upcoming trips and business endeavors. You always seem to land on your feet, and I have no doubt that you will with this life move as well.
Keep in touch, and we'll toss down some cold ones soon. The department can easily fill your position, but filling your shoes, knowledge, and experience will not happen.

Thanks Capt for everything you have done for me and the dept. I am thankful I was able to work for an old school capt. not many left with a resume like yours: 3,5,6 and the fires you fought and pumped. It has been a privilege to work for you the last 4 years.

Congratulations on making the big move! I know things will be great for you and your wife. (if she can keep you off the water.) I know there be lots of fishing involved now that you have more time!
You at one time was my Cap for what 2 days? But thanks to Medic 6 I got to spend lots of time with you and the guys from 6c. Thanks for the knowledge you shared with us all. And always treating me well. I have had the privilege to work for some of the finest Capn's in this department, one of them being you. We've broke bread together and eat smoke together! You will not be replaced any time soon.
Anyway have a blast and catch on for me! Don't be stranger and stop by and see us from time to time. Oh and sorry for going over on the kitty from time to time.( HA! HA!)

Cap, Just wanted to say thanks for all you taught me, not just about the job but many life lessons. It's great to know your leaving a legacy of good men behind you. Some fairly new guys with deep old school honor and tradition. (David Lucas) enough said. Your going to be missed, but now you 'll have to learn to relax!!! Funny right.
