livingjetlag said...: Here is something bicyclists have known forever: You can never know what is beneath the surface of the water. Not how deep it is, not how many potholes or sharp objects or bumps there are, nothing. Somehow, that lesson is less immediate to a driver of a car (who won't be injured by just going over a bump, etc), but in a flood, well, people just always seem to do the stupid thing, don't they. God bless you and your brothers, no matter how stupid or self-inflicted the situation, you always jump in without prejudice and save the day. There is no help or mercy but in God. Through first responders, as often as not.; 11:00 PM

Rhett Fleitz is a Lieutenant with the Roanoke Fire-EMS Department in the City of Roanoke, Virginia. He is the Secretary/Treasurer of the Roanoke Fire Fighters Association IAFF Local #1132. Rhett is currently continuing historical research and data collection after the Late Captain Wiseman. In 2006, he completed his first book, "Firefighting in Roanoke", a pictorial look at the history of the Fire Service in the City of Roanoke.
