Engine 10

I started Fire Officer II class yesterday. It was a C-Shift day, so I got to go while on duty. Yesterday was also my day on the Engine. I got back to the station around 5 and the engine had already run 6 calls. We ran an additional 7 calls, 4 being after midnight. I have to admit, it was a blast. I wouldn't trade it for anything. It is not easy going from never expecting a call, to running several in a day. I was driving the Engine and luckily all of the calls were familiar addresses. I don't get out much to learn the territory, but I did live close to 10's first due for 4 years. So all in all, it was a great time.

Yeah, I know, you guys are thinking "What the hell". This guy runs 7 calls, pumps a little mulch fire and runs a couple of alarms, and he is jumping for joy. Well trust me, it was a great day. Now I am looking forward to 2 cycles of absolutely nothing, except for FO II class.

Rhett, If you want to run calls why not get your medic, everyone would love to run only fire type calls. The reality is that it is only a small portion of the job, so if you really want to be BUSY contact me and I will put you in touch with the appropriate people to help you. In brotherly love. DD

Thanks Dennis, but I am not a "Medic" kind of person. Plus, I would just become the first ARFF Medic.

Now come on Rhett, Let the truth out. didn't you take the cardiac class and have some trouble with it? No-one wants to be a medic some just make the mistake of answering the call

What? Do you think you are airing out my dirty laundry. Ha. Truth is that I took the Cardiac class and I was supposed to take the "City" Cardiac skills test at the end. Well, I missed the test and had to take the normal State test which I was not prepared for in any way at all. This was an eye opener, how bad I failed the test, and I decided that I was not going to retest. End of story. And yes, some people want to be a medic. I don't think anyone wants it shoved down their throat.

I do not blame you Rhett, I too have zero desire to be a medic. I would rather stretch a line into the gates of hell than start a line a patient anyday! Glad to hear you had some engine time....good for you!
